Having a Bold Vintage Couch + RugsUSA Collab
HAPPY DAY-LIGHT SAVINGS!
WAKEY WAKEY!
Around two months ago, my husband and I purchased our Chesterfield-esque velvet sofa for $200 from a local FaceBook group. We instantly fell head-over-heels with it's color: a lovechild of avocado green + shimmering gold.
I've always been obsessed with Chesterfield sofas, but the majority of them are leather ---- which is not what we're about here at BB (not to mention the serious $$$ it takes to purchase a new couch).
I'm really into the seventies, and my main inspiration behind buying the couch was to add a little funk to our eclectic home. I'd love to categorize my home style with one title, but eclectic seems to be the one it falls under! We love the boho vibe like 75% of the time, but we also love modern cuts and shapes. We like minimalistic looks, but find ourselves drawn to color. In any case, after we got the sofa, we knew we needed something to bridge the gap between our almost too-secondhand looking living room.
That's when I stumbled across several blogger friends saying they received some absolutely stunning rugs from RugsUSA, and I just had to take a look! With two rowdy puppies under a year old, we have to have a durable piece that won't easily be dragged across the room, or will be ruined if some poo-poo-paws step onto it.
Thus, I discovered the magical world of neutral jute rugs. I knew I needed a natural fiber rug, nothing wool or leather-lined, and I was struggling between hemp, cotton, or jute. After searching Pinterest for some jute-spiration, I fell in love with the concept of tying our vintage room together with a geometric pattern! I feel like it was the smartest way to marry the two styles together, and create a modern-boho vibe.
TIPS FOR STYLING A BOLD/VINTAGE COUCH
1. COLOR - Most vintage couches are made in bright/bold colors, which provide a beautiful center piece for any room. Try to score a colorful sofa that will spice up your space! Adversely, don't overdo the color --- unless you want a rainbow house, then go with that. Otherwise, keep it to a styling color palette, which brings me to:
2. NEUTRAL RUGS - Like I've said in this post, we struggled pairing our couch with a colorful floor piece, but more so with the warm wooden floors! I'm so grateful for them, but they drive me crazy with the warm couch tone. I needed a lighter wash underneath our sofa.
3. TEXTURE - Whether you like smooth or shiny, texture makes a huge difference. We love the touch of groovy our velvet-covered sofa provided our room with, but you could go more chic and classic with a flat cotton weave, or possibly leather or vinyl if that's your style. Wicker furniture is also stunning and counts in this category!
4. DON'T OVER-VINTAGE IT - Try to keep your space somewhat fresh and modern, unless you want it to look like the inside of a VW bus. If you really are that much of a die-hard Yellow Submarine fan, go for it! It's a little bit harder to find balance, but finding tribal/trendy accents, or metallic tones can really divide That 70s Show from Domino Magazine.

Now, back to my cozy Sunday morning! Yes, we are still in our robes. Happy Day-Light-Savings!
