Things I'm Obsessed With 2/24 + Turmeric Maca Latte
Ahh.
Nothing like a stormy Wednesday to give you that little mid-week cushion, allowing space for you to stay in, rest up, and get some much-needed tasks done. For me, personally, I've been a tad behind on my schooling and have used this windy and cloudy morning to play catch-up, listening to lectures in one window and scrolling through power points with another. Gotta love classroom-free flexibility!
It's been a month since our last THINGS I'M OBSESSED WITH post, and I can't wait to share what I've found interesting/amazing this month.
1. Vintage Filters
I've been so allured recently by golden/rosy tones in photos, lowered high-lights, and random bursts of turquoise and pink, that I've made a little guide below to show my three favorite apps and which filters I've been sticking with.
YESSSS! This is actually a (simple but) surprising new obsession of mine, as many of you may have noticed.
2. Maca + Turmeric Lattes
As you may be able to tell, I'm pretty into this one. We recently purchased the Breville Barista Express espresso machine to cut back on our trips out for coffee (and our wasted cups), and I've really been experimenting like crazy this month! I've been making it this latte for pre-workout breakfast lately, and following it up with a post-workout mid-morning smoothie.
My recipe adapted from NS:
- 1/2 cup almond milk
- 1/2 cup canned coconut milk
- 1/2 tsp maca
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp reishi mushroom powder
- 1.5 teaspoons coconut sugar
- 1/2 tbsp Vega Sport Protein Powder Vanilla or Chocolate
**Blend everything together until frothy, then steam in a steaming pitcher (or warm over stovetop) + Add your espresso and enjoy!**
My current favorite latte is inspired by McKel Hill's Coffee, Elevated and Turmeric Milk Latte but has a few alterations, since we have our own espresso machine. Speaking of Nutrition Stripped..
3. Morning Routines and the Nutrition Stripped Society
In my last obsession post, I shared that I had recently joined the NS Society and that I was trying out a few recipes and really loving the unity of being a part of such a unique membership. Having already been familiar with many of the same ways of eating as is recommended by the plant-based NS philosophy, I didn't have to make too many adjustments to my menu.
However, as a few weeks went on, I realized how I was really lacking in the mindfulness and self-care category of my days. The holidays has come and gone and I had BlissBranch to focus on, letting all the New Years orders consume me (in a happy way, but still), leaving me with not much time to just...breathe and be.
In my video post, I shared that I've recently quit a part-time job to resume my career with the blog and shop, focusing on moving toward a promoting a more mindful lifestyle --- yet, here I've been, working so hard toward that, I've neglected to be present!
McKel, founder of Nutrition Stripped, shared a post a few weeks back on her blog discussing the importance of having a morning routine, and this post has been my reference the past few days. I've chosen to dive back into self-care and mindfulness by beginning with cultivating a grounding morning routine.
I began this past Monday, waking up at 5:15AM each day since, enjoying my latte (I mentioned in #2), reading a book, meditating, exercising, showering, and most importantly --- REFRAINING from checking my phone. Having an online business, that last step is huge. In reality, however, mostly anything I need to get to can wait until I'm dressed at 8:30AM, having had time to find my center and check-in with myself first.
There are sooo many cool things to explore with the Nutrition Stripped Society, and I encourage you to browse through the benefits on McKel's site --- I actually used a downloadable Morning Routine Worksheet to curate my dream morning and replicate it everyday!
4. Pear DuPree
Okay, okay, so this sounds so simple, but if I'm going to be honest about my recent obsession, one is def my puppy PEAR!
We rescued Pear in late November 2015, and obviously, we were instantly in love. For those of you who still cling to the misconception that all pitbulls are evil, vicious, and threatening, you probably haven't actually been around one. They definitely have a bad reputation; we all have that one in-law who scoffs any chance they can about how dangerous the breed undoubtedly is, and how you're just asking for trouble by bringing them into your home. blah. blah. blah.
I can honestly say (and I've had a ton of dogs) that Pear is the sweetest and most gentle little nugget I've ever met. Watching her little personality blossom from a skittish, submissive peeing, little runt to one of licking, jumping and cuddling has been so incredible.
She absolutely loves when Collin plays guitar, tilting her head back and forth for minutes on end before finally running as close as she can get, licking the air! It's so adorable.
5. Låpsley
She's been my latest female vocalist crush! I can't wait for her record to drop next month.
Check out the track "Station"
6. Our Daniel Wellington Watches
We are sooo obsessed with our new watches by Daniel Wellington --- especially since we randomly chose matching ones! So cute.
Collin's obsessed with the lightweight and comfortable band, and of course, we love that the brand offers non-leather band options for people who are vegan/avoid animal products in general. These watches are not only chic and stylish, but also extremely versatile! So far, I've dressed mine up with dresses, but today for coffee with the hubby, I chose to pair it with a sweatshirt and a turtleneck for an instant cool-factor.
If you want to give the watches a look, visit Daniel Wellington and take 15% off your purchase with the code DUPREE ! We can't wait to see which one you pick out! [ The code expires March 30, 2016 ]
